Sean, We did discover that Levels behave differently than Overrides mentioned in the original post above. Using Global Display toggles rather than Level Display to toggle levels on and off in an attached nested file does the trick.

Tim, I am having a similar issue but the nesting depth is not as detailed. In my example file A has file B referenced to the default model. I use ORD to create a named boundary and then allow ORD to create the drawing model and sheet model. In the drawing model of file A, I set the Display Overrides on the reference file (which is the default model of file A) to Allow and save settings. When I look at the settings of the reference file there is a saved view or synchronize view setting. In the sheet model of file A, I set the Display Overrides to Never. I then go back to the drawing model and turn off levels, save settings, and go back to the sheet model to see levels turned off. I then close file A and reopen to find that the levels I turned off and back on again in the drawing model and sheet model. I can see that you asked specific questions on these type of settings so I hope you can provide some insight on my issue.

go to the search bar in the upper right and key in configuration - in the choices that come up select configuration variables.

This should open the configuration variables dialog. Look thru the list for the variable I mentioned (MS_LEVEL_AUTO_SYNC_ATTRIBUTE_LIST). Is this set or defined ?

ok it looks like you are not using a saved view.

"MS_LEVEL_AUTO_SYNC_ATTRIBUTE_LIST" - That is a configuration variable - I am guessing you are not familiar with these ?

This is what I see when I double click the file. Where would I be able to find, "MS_LEVEL_AUTO_SYNC_ATTRIBUTE_LIST?"

actually double click on the reference and it should open the "settings" dialog. Look down towards the bottom of the list of options.

The other thing to check is the MS_LEVEL_AUTO_SYNC_ATTRIBUTE_LIST variable - see if this is being used in your workspace.

the same place you found the "display overrides" you should see a "synchronize view" option for the reference settings.

key in : SET REFLEVELOVERRIDES and tell me what it is set to - the message will be displayed at the bottom of the app window (the message center) .
