Drainage: confirming that 2D Pipes' exterior wall lines aren't a thing yet?

other than pipe size-specific linestyles, we don't have two or three lines in 2D for pipes yet, right?

  • Somewhere back about 20 years ago when I was doing a lot of work for NJDOT I remember we came up with an office standard where we would show a single heavy line for pipe diameters up to 30", and then actual pipe widths for pipes 36" and greater.  When you are using a 60" pipe, a single line really doesn't give you enough information, especially if you are in a utility-busy location.  We would also show the actual lines for large node structures for the same reason.  This was easy to do with Inroads S&S.

Just thinking out loud here: maybe an idea worth considering (or not, just spit-balling):  use separate "small" and "large" Feature Definitions for 3D display of nodes and conduits so that they are put on different levels.  You can then later reference the "large" pipes and structures to your 2D plan view, but not display the "small" 3D stuff.  Not sure I like this idea myself - it would require configuration changes that most users would not have access to - but just a thought.

Mark, I'm not sure if this addresses the issue with arch pipe.  I'd have to test it.
