Drainage: confirming that 2D Pipes' exterior wall lines aren't a thing yet?

other than pipe size-specific linestyles, we don't have two or three lines in 2D for pipes yet, right?

  • Chuck:

To answer your inquiry, no, the end section nodes do not update (nor do any nodes).

  • This thread reinforces my belief that the right people at Bentley don't review the forums in a timely manner.  They have a response to this.  I have used my considerable weight (which unfortunately appears to only affect the bathroom scale) to urge Bentley to split off OpenRoads Drainage and Utilities into its own forum.  Currently, our questions and issues are lost in a sea of roadway stuff.   Our Searches return a flood of irrelevant roadway, GEOPAK,Drainage, InRoads Storm & Sanitary "results".

A new forum devoted to ORD Drainage and Utilities issues will

    • allow us to extract some actual help from our searches,
    • allow Bentley Staff (and users) to more easily monitor and reply to D&U questions
    • provide some visibility into the response times to questions
      • (providing a mechanism to leverage Bentley into better response time (and value))

While there is a bit of work involved in populating the relevant current D&U content over to a D&U-focused Forum, doing so will provide immediate value to D&U users.  Outside of that, it's not a particularly heavy lift for Bentley to do this and increase their D&U support experience rather dramatically.

If you support this idea, please use your clout to move this forward.

  • Oh, I certainly agree, Jeff. Thankfully, there are a few DU folks out here to help out; Robert Garrett, Jonathan Smith, Karl Dauber, etc, all of whom have been good to me personally. My clout is even less than yours, but I will do what I can!

  • to repurpose the Sagan Standard:  "Extraordinary Complexity Requires Extraordinary Support".  ORD D&U is the most complex software I've seen in 30+ years by far.  The support should actually be correspondingly better than the roadway scope, but it is considerably worse.  This is, of course, expected due to the disparity in userbase numbers, but squeaky wheels...

  • Yep, Robert, Karl, and you have been very helpful, but none of my SELECT money sees its way to you, does it?  Y'all shouldn't be forced to carry the forum.  I've always told Jonathan that he has the hardest job at Bentley, merging two disparate verticals.  I think he's done a great job and trust him to continue to do so.  The software is getting very good, but the Extraordinary Complexity demands a high level of support.  Support Effectiveness is directly related to commitment.  Jonathan can beg for resources, but without us yelling, the resource managers assume we're satisfied.  You all know the importance getting timely support is to the successful use of this product.
