I messed up my design, and it was going to take a while to undo every change I made, so I decided to close the file and free it. This usually discards any changes that I made and leaves

RE: Why did my file save the changes I made when I hit free?

I think so. It's just weird that this has never happened to me before. I guess I've never freed something after making noticeable changes. Thanks!

RE: Why did my file save the changes I made when I hit free?

My understanding of this situation is as follows:

If ProjectWise is configured to leave local copies when an object if freed, the DGN file that you were working on remains in your local DMS folders, the record on ProjectWise is not updated.

When you go to open that file again, ProjectWise knows when the local file was downloaded and checks this against the last changes made to the record on the server. If that file has been updated by another user, you get the updated version from the server. If that file has not been touched, PW assumes your local copy is current and simply opens the local file from your DMS location.

So, whether you get the updated file in this instance will depend on whether another user accessed the file. I propose to my clients that a free command to discard changes as you have done, always be followed by purging the local copy of the file.

Hope that helps.
Steve

RE: Why did my file save the changes I made when I hit free?

As i know, if you "FREE" the DGN, the changed DGN (because auto-saved in OpenRoads) will be leave in local working directory. And the DGN in the ProjectWise server will NOT be updated.

(PW Explorer > Tools > Options > Settings)

So, you can try to check-out the DGN from ProjectWise server again with the unchanged/original version.

Also, you can try to use Tools> Local Document Organizer to clear/purge the local copies (changed DGN) first to ensure he original DGN can be downloaded and checked-out from ProjectWise again.
