How many ex MX users are struggling with ORD?

I am curious, is it just me or is ORD doing in the heads of other ex-MX users? Trying to produce profiles and sections just takes forever, I know MX could not section solids but it would be quicker to trace solids in MX as strings and cut sections via .inp then continue down this path. It is beyond painful and costing me a fortune in lost productivity.

  • Hi John,

Is this happening for all the projects or this project in particular? What is the version number of ORD?

  • Hi Amita

Sorry I was having a bad day. With MX I could run a batch file and get sections out in 5 minutes. Lots of control over surfaces or strings cut. But to 3D cut a solid file, rvt or IFC you would have to spend hours tracing solids using Microsdtation tools in MX and convert to MX strings before cutting sections. Also quality was fine for working drawings but for final draft you would still need to CAD.

After spending two days chasing the same result from ORD I lost my cool. But I did get it out in the end and the presentation is very nice.

I have ref in several large files, DWG solids from Revit, Survey data in .rvt, and about 40 ORD corridors for design plus a survey terrain. All managed through PW. It is a controlled Workspace.

Annotation of cross sections by both annotation group and civil anno tools very unpredictable. Group anno works sometimes then others not.

Workaround I found after two days pounding the mouse was to delete ORD folders under c::\user\username and then create a new DGN and ref everything in again, and keep trying until it works.

Using ref in alignments is a problem for named cells, works if you create a simple alignment in a new DGN, ref everything else in and drape on design. So slow placing named boundaries, like several minutes after selecting the option. Version below.

    Thanks for replying.
