OpenRoads Designer (Update Number, Version Number, WorkSpace Number)

Hi,

OpenRoads Designer 2021 R1 Update 10- Version 10.10.03- WorkSpace 10.9.1

R1 Update 10 ?

Version 10.10.03 ?

WorkSpace 10.9.1 ?

Can anyone help in understanding all these numbers, and why so much numbers are used in describing an Software product.

And  while asking question in forum , is it essential to describe all the above numbers of the product and how it helps in getting the solution.

  • Hello Babulal,

I would like to mention, 10.10.01.03 and 10.09.00.91 are the version numbers of OpenRoads Designer.

To check which version of OpenRoads Designer currently you are using, please go to File > Help > OpenRoads Designer.

If you can see in the below snapshot, there are two versions of OpenRoads Designer i.e. OpenRoads Designer CE and OpenRoads Designer CE 10.10.

These two folders of OpenRoads Designer represents that I have installed two version of OpenRoads Designer i.e. 10.09.00.91 and 10.10.21.04.

Hence you could able to see two folders for OpenRoads Designer.

Regarding workspace which you have mentioned 10.09.00.91, so if you double click and open OpenRoads Designer CE first folder from this location C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CE\Configuration\WorkSpaces,

You will able to see workspace folder which represents that this is the workspace of 10.09.00.91 version number.

If you open second folder i.e. OpenRoads Designer CE 10.10 from this location.C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CE 10.10\Configuration\WorkSpaces, this will represents that this the workspace of 10.10.21.04 version number.

  • Hello Babulal,

There are some users issue gets resolved in the latest version of OpenRoads Designer and those users who work on the older version of OpenRoads Designer due to their project requirements, we ask them to upgrade their version, as their issues resolved in the latest version of OpenRoads Designer.

Also there are some users requirements like new tools/ new capabilities which needs to be added in OpenRoads Designer, which we called it as Bugs & Enhancements and when new version is released, we provide it to the users by fixing their Bugs and Enhancements.

    Regards,

  • Generally, it is enough to include the year and release number (e.g. 2021 R2) or the full version (e.g., 10.10.21.04).  There have only been a couple of instances when there hasn't been a one-to-one relationship between year and release number and version number.

Since workspaces are usually customized by users or their clients, workspace versions are not usually meaningful.

  • As Purva said, it is helpful to know which version you are using because there are bug fixes, bug regressions, and new features between different versions. If you need to work in ORD 2020 R3, then a solution using a tool introduced in 2021 R2 will not help you. There also might be a bug in your version that we know a workaround for, that wouldn't be relevant in a version that didn't have the bug.

We can't always upgrade to the newest version due to client requirements...so know what version you have is very helpful. Most different versions are not backward compatible, but some are the same (2020 R1, 2020 R2) so you might be able to upgrade one version and not interfere with the integrity of your data.
