How to create an alignment in Microstation SS10 without Geopak? Is this possible, or do I have to have Geopak installed? Could I create an alignment in ORD and insert it in SS10? Would it be compatible?
You can create a complex chain in MicroStation with line segments and arcs. Including spirals would be a challenge. It won't be an alignment in the sense that it has stationing or attached vertical alignments.
You can create an alignment in ORD and export it LandXML. Most civil design software (ORD, InRoads, Geopak, Civil3D, etc.) will import LandXML files. MicroStation does not recognize geometry from LandXML.
Would you be able to label off the alignment that was exported or do you still need geopak for stationing labeling?
Again, MicroStation will not import LandXML files. You would have to create the alignment manually in MicroStation and you could station it using Base Geometry>Points>Points at Distance Along (MS V8i) or Drawing workflow>Home ribbon>Placement>Points>Points at Distance Along (MS Connect) but it would be pretty tedious and prone to error. It would be best done in Geopak or some other civil design software.
Since MicroStation cannot recognize an alignment, it would have no way to label it. You would have to calculate and type the text yourself.
Microstation elements do not have stations.
