Microstation Problem Daily!

We are using Microstation Version SS10 and InRoads Version SS2.

Cogo Points and alignments/figures are created daily on a huge project. Below is the process and problem.

Process for the day is as follows:

  1. Open Microstation>open file
    2. Open InRoads Suite>Open ALG with xin
    3. Work. Creating/editing points, etc.
    4. Save ALG, close InRoads
    5. Save .dgn and save settings (sometimes compress file [have tried compressing before and after closing InRoads during trial and error in finding the root of the problem])
    6. Close .dgn

Next day, when I open Microstation and then the subsequent file, it stays on a grey screen and will not open... corrupt.

To fix, I create a new file and merge to master the previous one (have tried only copying in instead of merging to master). And then sometimes the points I created or edited are lost and must be reassigned thru the Horizontal Curve Set>Events function in InRoads to be relabeled and reassigned.

At the end of the day I have even saved and closed out of everything, then immediately tried re-opening the file I was working in and it opened just fine. Almost as if overnight something is happening.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, what was your solution?

Thanks!

  • I can't remember if we ever got this to work. We switched to using PowerInRoads SS2 and PowerInRoads SS10. PIR SS2 is bundled with the older microstation that works.

BTW, I thought Bentley's licensing was now that if you run MicroStation with InRoads on top you pay for an ORD Suite license + a MicroStation license, where running PowerInRoads is only the ORD suite license. We've been removing MicroStation completely because of this.

  • Part of the issue may well be that I do not think InRoads SS2 is certified to run over MicroStation SS10, and I KNOW that it is not certified to run on Windows 10/11. While I can't be sure that's the problem, it could contribute to some of the weirdness you are seeing.
