ive imported a civil 3D file into ORD. the linework show up as line strings. how do i convert them into ruled feature lines, and keep the 3D elevations?
let me rephrase this.
how do i convert 3d line strings into feature lines and keep the elevations?
What do you intend to use the imported information for? Are you importing for use by Corridors and Templets or is the intent more existing survey work?

existing survey work.
Ok, you'll want to create a Fieldbook under Survey in the Explorer dialog. Once that's created, you can "add graphic feature" (by selection when right-clicking on the Fieldbook's "ALL Linear Features" group within the Explorer dialog) or attempt the entire set of elements in the file with "Features from current graphics" (mixed results if levels are not recognized by your ORD workspace). Depending on your workspace, whatever level your graphics are on may import to a respective survey feature type. Knowing those came from C3D, I'd guess you'll need to digest those manually, by selection. I don't understand ... you want to 'use' it to represent "existing survey work" ... or it IS 'existing survey work'? I would repeat what Shawn originally asked ... What do you want to DO with this data? Do you want to create a Terrain from it? Do you expect to use it as alignments? Do you want to use it somehow during future corridor modeling? Is it just background graphics for referencing? I don't see the value of adding it into a Fieldbook unless it's supplemental data that needs to be combine with other field data already in an ORD Survey Field Book. You say you want "Ruled Features" ... for what OpenRoads reason?
