I hate this software so bad

Here am I just venting because I have nothing else to do with my life but stay late, not creating value for my clients or solving issues that matter but trying to get this disaster of software to work.
The number one reason why I want to quit engineering is that I have to use this software. I hate it so bad, is so unstable and everything that it promises to accomplish falls way short off, I don't get it. so sick of working hours on end to achieve nothing and then having to eat those hours myself, time that I could have spent with family or doing something productive instead of dealing with this disaster.

  • I don't believe there are any defects or bugs, so therefore I cannot provide that for you

  • Pretty sure the entire platform is a defect/bug...Tell your boss that customers aren't beta testers

  • Have you actually been trained to use the software or just blindly trying to use it?

Just jumping in from legacy software and trying to design the way you did 30 years ago doesn't cut it in ORD.

Workflows need to change for your desired outcome. btw i come from an MX background and believe that offered a superior design-modeling processes and efficiencies, but we need to adapt for the new wave of BIM/Digital Engineering taking over global markets whether we like it or not.

  • I've been to training on ORD...that was my first glimpse of the storm that was coming.  I choose not to drink the koolaid and call a spade a spade. This platform has too many issues to list so I won't even attempt here.  Where it stands, it is a fairly good preliminary design platform.  Dig deeper than that and you find yourself in nightmare territory. I know there is more than a small minority that feel this way and are fed up with the wasted time.  If more users would take off the kid gloves and speak their minds perhaps we could get some solutions.  I stand by my (and many others') stance that once the DOTs try to fully switch over to this platform, Bentley will be in for a shock...at least here in the states.

One telling example of overreach I will give is the elimination of static cross sections.  PDF plans are still the deliverable for the DOT in my state and will be for some time moving forward.  While I agree that we need to prepare for model based submittals, that is not my/our current reality here. And even if it was, it is awfully big of Bentley to take that option away from the user.  They don't get to dictate the design process of how we get to a final model.  There is also something called the law of diminishing returns which I shouldn't have to explain.  I've been using Bentley software for over two decades, and it was a wonderful relationship.  However, it may be time to start thinking about a divorce.

  • I find it interesting that not one actual bug has been mentioned yet (except that it works differently to what i used before). There definitely are issues to be resolved, but this sounds very similar to the backlash when CONNECT introduced a ribbon and users had to change how they work...
