.DC (deleted shots) and .RW5 (no notes) import issues - InRoads V8i (SELECTseries2)

I am using InRoads Suite V8i (SELECTseries 2) to process survey data and have a new consulting firm who is submitting data. I've had them send both a .dc file and an .rw5 file. When I import the .dc file, deleted shots are showing up in the dataset. When the shot is deleted in the field, the subsequent shot is given the same shot number, so what is happening is that their are two shots with the same point name but different coordinates and elevations, so InRoads places the point in an incorrect location. I've been having to go through entire dataset to look for duplicate points..........very time consuming. I've tried importing an .rw5 file of the same data, and it doesn't seem to do this, but the problem I am having with that file format is that none of the notes are coming in on import. Does anybody know how to remedy either one of these issues?

  • InRoads Survey does not have the ability to read and process the Delete Codes. You should be able to search and find the delete point code in the RW5 file and use that as a guide to remove the original shots. What is happening is the software is averaging the angles and distances to the duplicate points. I recommend Notepad++ as a good all-purpose editor. It also allows custom syntax highlighting, so you could make the delete codes stand out. And its Search option will open a results window that allows you to click on o result and it jumps to the line in the file.

  • Thanks for the reply. I have been using Notepad to find the shots that need to be deleted as you mentioned which is easier than looking through the FieldBook in InRoads, but still is a pain. What baffles me is that when I used to work in the field collecting data using a Trimble data collector, and a shot was deleted, InRoads always recognized it when I imported the .dc file.

  • I've never worked with the .dc files - always RW5/RAW.

In addition to the delete point codes, we also had to instruct our crews to never use the Edit point command. If they did, the edited shot was written into the file as an SP with fixed coordinates. If the control coordinates needed to be adjusted, any SP points retained their original computed on the fly coordinates. We told them to add a Note explaining what needed to be edited. Usually, that was something like Point NNNN should be a BC ST - because they forgot to include the ST code.

We did learn that on the Carlson software, it was possible to edit the point and the original point had its code rewritten without adding an PC with the new codes.
