[ORD 2022 R1] Create Cut Fill Volumes not following active terrain

I have a project where Create Cut Fill Volumes is not working correctly.  It seems to be using a different existing ground terrain than what is set as active.  The corridor correctly ties down to this terrain.  The first image shows the left side of a particular template drop, which is a correct representation.  The second image is of the same left side, but with the cut and fill shapes displayed.  For some reason it appears to be using a different terrain.  The cut volume doesn't extend to the existing ground over the entire section, and there is a phony fill volume that doesn't really exist.  This is happening on most, if not all, of the dynamic cross-sections.  As a test, I loaded any and all project-related terrains into this view.  None of them represent the surface that Create Cut Fill Volumes is using.

What is happening here?  Needless to say, at this point I have very little confidence in my earthwork volumes.

  • Hi Josh,

It doesnt use the active terrain specifically, but any referenced terrain that has an "Existing" volume option (whether displayed or not). Do you have any other terrains (or meshes) in the file which are Existing? Any objects using Substrata or Unsuitable?

    • I started with a blank 2D file
    • Working in the Default 2D model:
      • Reference attached Corridor file
      • Reference attached Existing Ground file(one "dropped" complex terrain (no ruled dependencies - so therefore no longer actually a complex terrain) in a single-model 3D dgn)
      • Reference attached Existing Pavement file (multiple existing pavement, sidewalk, and driveway terrains modeled with surface templates, in a single-model 3D file)
      • Set existing ground terrain as active
      • Opened 3 view - Default top view, 3D view, and dynamic cross-section view
    • Ran the Create Cut Fill Volumes tool ignoring unsuitables for now
    • Cut and Fill volumes are still incorrectly solving for some invisible, not-referenced terrain
    • I cannot find any terrain in any file in the WorkSet folder with a terrain that looks like what is being used by Cut Fill Volumes
    • Dynamic cut and fill areas look correct in the dynamic cross-section window, but they don't match the incorrect cut and fill volume meshes.
    • The three yellow lines below show the mystery surface being used incorrectly:

  • Any chance you could upload some of this data so we can have a look?

    Regards,
