[ORD 2022 R1] Exported Terrains Don't Match Original

I tried exporting a complex terrain to all of the available export formats (dtm, tin, .xml, fil, and txt).  When I create a new terrain from any of these exported files the triangles don't match the original terrain.  I think the underlying terrain is being reprocessed, thereby losing any terrain edits that may have been done.  I think this happens on any edited terrain, not just complex terrains.

This seems like a defect.  Am I expecting too much?

  • In my experience, Triangle Swaps are very fragile in Bentley software. Nothing is written to the terrain to preserve them if any recalculation of the triangles is required. I even tried manually adding breaklines to force swaps, but sometimes that impacts how surrounding triangles are formed. I try to avoid swapping triangles unless it is absolutely required and only late in the design process.
