Bentley OpenRoads Designer origin points for POT, PC, PI, PT and Curve Data

Bentley OpenRoads Designer origin points for POT, PC, PI, PT and Curve Data stay in the same location when referenced to another file and change the scale. The Text is annotated to the correct scale but, the text origin point will not move for those cardinal station text.

We’re using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD 2021 R2) 10.10.21.04

Below is the sample of alignment file at 1”=50’ annotation scale.

Next is the sample of the alignment file attached (referenced) to another file here the text gets annotated but, the origin points of the text stays in the same location as in the alignment file is there something we are missing or is this normal?

  • Garry,

We noticed this with 2021 R2 also. After submitting a service request to Bentley, defect 962847 was filed.

The issue is related to the Annotation Group/Definition's Manage Modification setting. It will behave like you describe if Manage Modifications equals True for the annotation definition being used (i.e. the cardinal points in your example) and the annotation scale of the reference file is different than the annotation scale of the active file.

Workaround is to change Manage Modifications to False. Of course, then you lose the White Space Management enhancement introduced in this release, OpenRoads Designer 2021 Release 2 White Space Management - YouTube.  Another workaround could be to annotate the alignment in the other file or the sheet's drawing models instead of using the referenced annotation - this is probably less desirable to most users.

    Hope that helps.
