When I use the static imagery option in the GeoCoordination services it loads a green layer for the terrain, so I tried the other option "steam from Bing maps" and it did load the location map with the terrain. But is there any difference between them in the data?
To use the static imagery option you would have to manually import your image usually as a raster into your file and indeed without doing that you would only get a green layer for the terrain.

As for the "stream from Bing maps" option, I think it creates a live stream connection so to speak with the Bing services and therefore you would not be able to load the Bing imagery if you were not connected to the internet.
