Hello,
I'm trying to create MH labels for our storm profile sheets. The only thing I cant figure out is how to get the N,E,S,W preffix in the label. Id like it to be dynamic instead of manually adding it. I know for Auto CAD the option is called "pipe direction" but I can't find this in ORD. I've shown an example of what I'm trying to add below:
(S) INV 99.8m
(N) INV 99.7M
Thank you,
Tayla
Thank you for this. Our team will try this out!

After doing further investigation, it is indeed the case that annotating in the "live" SUDA file works as before. Annotating in a file with the SUDA file referenced does not carry forth the text favorites values.
Would it be your suggestion- at this point- that I carry forth with attaching Item Types with their associated expressions to my nodes and conduits? It seems like the path that Bentley plans to take, but I really do not desire to commit to this idea if you think that there might be a better route. The other route- of course- would be to take the new values as represented in the properties dialog and modify my text favorites in that manner.
What do you think?
Best Regards,
Mark
Thank you, Robert, and I agree on all accounts. It was only a few versions ago that all of my annotations were working quite well. I do suppose that more testing is in order to make sure that such is still the case, or should I just rebuild all into the ultimate Bentley schema- Item Type exclusivity- here?
My, oh my...
Mark: Indeed there is a gaping hole in consistency here. Referenced files are key to every workflow of design. Besides labeling tasks discussed above simply being able to query drainage and utility properties across reference files is critical, for example a roadway designer needing to know properties of said manhole with which Tayla began this conversation. Or the person needing the information may not even be a designer or engineer; think managers and technicians.
Display rules? Query? Review? Annotate? All these and more depend on access to Utility properties, all of them, across reference files.
Over several releases, the number of properties appearing in the MS properties panel has grown based (apparently) on the notion of “they only really need these”. While it is understandable that it might take time (multiple versions) to merge all the database properties to one place, it appears that any plan to do so has been abandoned, as stated by Bentley in these pages.
The stated reason? There are too many properties. Somehow there fewer if listed in two places rather than one?
But ok. There is some merit to segregation of properties into logical groups. So, we basically now treat properties and utility properties as disconnected tabs, right? Sure and it works ok.
Until reference files come into play. Then utility properties fail. So, if you don’t want to merge the two panels what is your solution?
Bentley’s stated solution is use Item types. You and I to use item types to duplicate data into the property panel from utility properties. Need to query critical depth? You gotta do it yourself by creating and maintaining item types.
That is the end of today’s sermon.

Jonathan:
I am aware of the much needed additions to the software as regards SUDA. However, the statement "you can't by default annotate using properties from the databases if the DGN that contains the databases is referenced"- if I am reading that statement correctly- would literally deprecate how most of us are using- and as Bentley has recommended- SU files as a reference into our sheet drawing models and annotating SU data within those drawing models.
Am I understanding your statement correctly, or are you stating that additional database information would not be available, but models which are in the dgn- which have the database information "copied" as they are created will be honored?
