Hello,
I am trying to replace an existing horizontal alignment with a new horizontal alignment that is an offset of a third element. The original horizontal alignment already has vertical geometry and a corridor associated with it. I have already tried the append element and complex redefine tools to no avail, as well as the key-in geometry element replace. I was unable to use the keyin Geometry Substitute. I get an "unknown keyin" error. I am using MicroStation SS10 08.11.09.916.
Thank you
Hi Marc,
The only time this usually doesnt work is if the existing and proposed replacement Geometry have relationships to each other. The easy solution is to use the "GEOMETRY SIMPLIFY" command on the old geometry and it should work fine.
Note that the tool can sometimes have issues if the start and end points of the old geometry matches the new, but we have had a lot of success with it (still wondering why it is not exposed to users with an icon as is a lifesaver a lot of the time).
Regards,
Mark

Thank you, Charles!
Btw this can't work via reference file because it needs to actually edit the alignments to transfer properties/relationships from one element to another.
I figured the geometry would need to be in the same file. But, I wonder what would happen if profile named boundaries were in a different file? Or a corridor? Will it carry over the NB like it does if they are in the same file as the geometry?
Marc
What the tool looks to do is transfer the Horizontal Geometry Feature Name, Feature Definition and Civil instance links from one element to another (so it is identified to all related objects as the same thing in the active model and all references), but also transfers the entire Profile space as is from one element to another. No relinking or anything like that required - hence why it is such as great tool to quickly completely redefine geometry and keep all dependent relationships alive.
