[ORD 2021 R2] Is OpenRoads really this slow?

Am I expecting too much, or is ORD very slow compared to Inroads/Geopak? I mean, with all of the resources it appears to be loading, it takes 5+ minutes to open the first design file. Every DGNLIB from my client workspace has to load, and with all of the settings, there are a lot of DGNLIB files. Subsequent files don't take as long, but it is definitely slower than I am used to.

It feels as if there is lag to everything I want to do, every setting I want to change.

I am using a client workspace, so this isn't anything I set up myself. Are there any settings I should look into, or any way to speed it up?

Windows 11, 32 Gb RAM, if that makes any difference.

Thank you.

  • I found both MX and ORD almost unusable over a VPN onto a company file server, all the loading and saving makes all but the most simple projects/models super slow. Every action, every tool etc. and that is just working with the Bentley UK country data set workspace. When not using ProjectWise I work locally and copy files back to the file server regularly, similar to how ProjectWise would. Not ideal but improves speeds significantly. I believe MX use to have a feature in which it would do this for you (I never had to use it) but I can't imagine they will implement it in ORD unfortunately with their priority being ProjectWise.
