Sidewalk Template Constraints Challenge

Hello, I am currently in the process of creating an intersection in ORD and displaying the critical components (Curb and Sidewalk) in 3D. For the SW corner (first attached image), there is a smooth arc representing the curb and then the back of the sidewalk is a jagged line.

Ultimately my goal is to have the sidewalk tie into the curb (second attached image). I have also attached the file heretest9.dgn

  • I would use a surface template and small terrain model to get this area. I did something really quick and have uploaded it to show what I mean. You can get really detailed with the geometry inside the boundary for any ADA requirements, or you could put in the minimum geometry needed to place one of the curb ramp civil cells.

  • The method Justin proposes here is a common one used for intersection modeling and should work for you. Another option, and my preference in a situation like this, would be to attach the sidewalk to the curb template and target back of sidewalk with a point control. Using the return geometry as the source for the template feels more flexible both behind curb and street side to me. (I have a short pavement piece on the lip of curb that I target either roadway centerlines or often a side road centerline and mainline edge of pavement (from the corridor).

    Hope that helps.
