[ORD 2021 R2] Developing Annotation, labels, etc.?

I am watching the LEARN training for Create a Text Favorite, and I see them place a text field. The field choices they have for this look like:

What I see in my drawing looks like this:

I'm not certain what I am missing, or how to access it.

But I have a lot of questions about this portion. I hate to say anything like this, but in Civil 3D, creating a new label style is pretty easy to do on the fly. I can make a copy of an existing label style, edit whatever I want to change, and use it immediately.  This appears to be a LOT more complex than that, and I'm not thrilled. It means a LOT more overhead, to try to think of as many as I can ahead of time, as well as trying to teach everyone this process.

  • So...If text favorites are saved to a DGNLIB file, does that mean that I have to leave my DGNLIB files unprotected so that people can create favorites if they need them? Can text favorites be stored to the active file? I'd prefer for our standards to be protected from "basic user" manipulations, but I do need people to have enough access to get their work done.

    This is so convoluted...
And if the favorites are in the regular DGNLIB, does that mean that they will work with the regular MicroStation Note/Text tools, or do they still only work with Civil Labeler?

And the Text Favorites Filed Types aren't entirely obvious.
For example, I would like a favorite to give me a "half station" label (+XX.XX). But how do I get there?
I'm pretty sure it's Civil Element Properties.
Field subtype? Could it be Element? There's no stations there...I do see Stationing! but...What's the difference between Assigned Location (which looks as if I can format my field) and Assigned Station? I want a station, but Assigned Station only lets me Select Case (and why would there be a Case if it's all numbers?).

And I have no idea where to find "Offset". I see that Point has a "Rotation Offset" but I'm labeling a point on a line, not a point element, and I have no idea how rotation matters.

Oh, wait! There's a field subtype "Plan Annotation" Maybe that's where everything is? Good Lord...

So I'm back to having to think of every possible label we could ever need, because I'm not sure I can ever teach this to the less CAD-savvy people. And this is just favorites. I haven't even gotten to element templates, annotation groups, label definitions or any of the rest.

  • Yes Text Favorites can be created and stored in the active file.  They can also be copied from your protected dgnlib's into the active file if you or a user would like to create their own.

Text Favorites will work with MicroStation Place Note and Place Label tools.

If you have suggestions for improvement please submit them here.
