Hi,
When creating cut and fill closed mesh for my quantity report, lots of holes are created in cut mesh as if ignoring the existing terrain at some random spots (See below) It only appears to do this in the cut meshes, not the fill.
Obviously this is a problem as my cut quantities won't be accurate. Any thoughts on what could cause this? (Tried with ORD 2020 R3 and 2022 R1. Both similar results)
Thanks!
Pat
Was the existing TM imported from an XML created in Civil 3D?
Hi Kyle, no it was created from a point cloud.
Hey Mark, it's a complex terrain made from 3-4 tiles.
From what I've seen Complex Terrains seem to have a lot of these issues (not sure why). Can you try running Cut/Fill with the direct Terrains instead of the Complex one? If I recall correctly, the tool can use multiple existing surfaces.

Hi Mark, thanks for your suggestion but unfortunatly results are still the same. I also tried to significantly reduce the points when creating the terrain, tried exporting to dtm (maybe it had something to do with the point cloud tiles) reimporting and again same thing.
I'm about to try offseting lines from my centerline to cover my corridors, draping on surface and create a new surface from that. I'm running out of ideas at this point...
Are you running this as one corridor, or backbone separate from end conditions? If you are running separate are you running them all off the baseline and at the same interval? It appears to me there may be some triangulation issues on your end condition corridors/terrains.
So I tried to run Cut/Fill with the direct terrains and had same results. I ended up creating a new, smaller terrain by offsetting the centerline left and right at a specific interval, drape those lines on the terrain and created a new terrain from that. Ran Cut/fill and it fixed the problem.
At this stage of my project this precision will be enough. But if this would be at a later stage, it would definitely be a problem.
