How to model a Crown point that doesn't match alignment.

Good Morning we are modeling a corridor, in one section we want to shift the crown point from the alignment.

Currently we have the alignment as the controlling point for our template. We want the crown point modelled in our corridor, but we want to maintain the 0 offset for the CL. Would a point control work for this or would it then make the CP offset 0?

  • The crown can be different than the CL geometry.  Create a Null point at the 0,0 location CL then constrain your Crown Point to that point.  The null point at 0,0 will follow the alignment and your crown fill follow the Null Point until modify it using Parametric Constraints, Horizontal Feature Constraint or Point Controls.  If you want the CL of the Road to remain the center and only shift the Crown not the Lane or Edge of pavements make those points constrained to the CL point.

  • In your example, is there a point control for the Null point to follow the CL of the road? I have a scenario where I have a shared use path that has it's own centerline and profile. The shared use path is tying into existing edge of pavement on one side, and existing ground on the other. I still want the cross sections of the shared use path to show the roadway centerline as the 0 offset, but how do I have it so the proposed grading for the path is still being built off of the profile, but the origin or centerline will still show as the roadway centerline. I feel as if there needs to be 2 control points here, a control point for the EOP tie in, and then a control point to follow the CL of road. I am not quite sure how to achieve this.
