You can use either method in your template to control the taper of your edge of pavement in your corridor.

I probably wouldn't add a transition, or else a very, very short one. I would simply start the second template drop at the beginning of your "transition", and use point controls or parametrics to control the carriageway edge tapers. You aren't really transitioning smoothly between two templates - they abut without a real transition.
