I am trying to get excavation cut and fill quantities for a project. There will be a section of the terrain that will be cut and then there will be a fill placed on top of that. I'm trying to figure out what tools to use to achieve this.
Would I create a custom corridor/template with both the cut and fill elements or would I have to run 2 separate corridors/templates to get the quantities?
Would openroads be able to calculate the mass haul when both templates are overlapping each other?
Is the excavation calculated separately from the other construction? Is it being done is a separate phase?
I believe there are ways to calculate materials volumes separately, but I don't know a lot about that, or ORD earthwork in general. You may be able to search these forums for "unsuitable material" or "benching" to see if anything there might apply to what you want to do.
You could certainly create a corridor for your excavation, and generate a terrain from that. Then you would create a complex terrain from your existing ground and your excavation terrain, which you could use as the target for your finished construction.

I am thinking that I'll need to do 2 individual passes and calculate the quantities of the cut and fill. Is there a better way to do this?
