This might not be very helpful but I believe to modify the 3D model, it needs to be within an active window and you can not modify the 3D model by the 2D view with the 3D model since it is only a reference, if that makes sense. It is one of those things that is oddball about ORD (2D vs. 3D) and how they interact.

So when applying a FD with an item type to a point in a template for a corridor it goes into the 3D model, interesting. I did try to label the 3D in the 2D by it's reference but didn't seem to do anything. I guess I will have to try another method to achieve what I'm after e.g. apply the FD with item type to geometry and attach the corridor to that FD maybe.

The "Items Related" object in your 2d model tells me the Item Type is actually attached to the 3d model (and this is propagating to its 2d parent geometry). I bet the label will work fine in 3d. Unless you attach it manually to your Corridor 2D feature it is hard to control (at least for us)

Good questions. I'm new to item types and am only starting to learn to make use of them for easier annotation. I should have said, I'm using 2022 R1, is that update in R2 by any chance?

Click on the line in 2D model:

Click on line in 3D model (same if I click on the referenced 3D element in the 2D model):

Edit: Actually if I change the value in the 2D or 3D element it changes it in the corresponding element which sounds like what you were describing.

Hi Ken,

The annoying thing when attaching to Corridor elements is that the Item Type sometimes attaches to the 3d element or 2d geometry for Linear elements and not all the same properties are available to each. Is this what may be happening? Does the properties of the linked element in the 3d model display properly?

There is a recent "single source of truth" that was introduced that shares Item Types that were attached in 3d with its parent 2d geometry and vice versa, but we have found that this causes some issues with Item Type expressions as the data available between 2d and 3d elements usually differs.
