Hi!
I'm working as Road Designer in PowerCivil.
Would anyone help me with how to define existing top soil layer (usually in different thickness throughout along the road) so I can see it when suraface is created?
Thanks.
How is this layer defined? You say different thicknesses - how are those determined?
Do you want to create an actual topsoil surface, or would you just need it to show up on your cross sections.
You say "PowerCivil" - would you be able to give us the exact version number?

MaryB, thanks for involving!
So, for example, my road is 1 km long. Then, let's say first 200 m are with topsoil depth 0.20 m, then next 400 m with depth of 0.30 m, et.c.- it differs throughout the stationing.
I shall make a submission where designed road and existing surface is shown (existing surface shall include the topsoil's thickness). I would also love to have it in the cross-sections, of course.
PowerCivil is for Middle East V8i Version 08.11.09.789
I'm not familiar with PowerCivil - I'm used to PowerInRoads and PowerGeopak. Does it use templates? or is there another way for it to model cross sections?
If those are done with a template, you might have the ability to define a cross section "stripping" feature that follows the existing surface at a defined depth. You could possibly use a variable that you would control with a parametric constraint to define the depth from station to station. You may have to read in the Help how best to do that.
MaryB , just want to make sure if we speak about the same thing. So - I have created existing surface from topography data. Then, I create vertical aligmnet, adjust typicall cross-section and create corridor. So, what I'm interested most is that at during some of previously explained steps I define how thick (according to geological investigation) is topsoil layer, so I can define it through my road. For example, I define that topsoil is const.0.20 m thick, and I can see the actual line when roatating my design in 3D view, and also I can see the line when creating single cross-section at stationin on my choice. Is this something You ment before?
