Reference has reset all civil labeler notes

Situation: striping sheets annotated with civil labeler

files: striping design dgn, alignment dgn

the way my company has the files set up, one of the engineers had to upload a backup copy of the striping dgn to projectwise.

for whatever reason, the engineer was not able to swap out the dgn without breaking the reference.

even though most of the linework in the striping dgn was the same when they reuploaded, this broke all of the civil labeler's associations with the striping linework

things like stations, offsets, striping line type (controlled by the alg and item abbreviated label)

the alignment dgn did not change at all, and all of the civil labels for station offset are still pointing at the exact same places they were before, yet many of the labels have reset to say "STA. 0+00, RT 0.00"

so my question is this:

is there a way to reset the association of all of these notes already placed in here without manually re-inserting hundreds of labels?

i tried dragging the arrowhead off, and then back on to the lines after fixing the reference for the line type notes controlled by the line's item abbreviated label.

i tried dragging the associative circle back into place for the station offset notes.

  • Hey Jaimee, We experienced this same exact issue 18 months ago. I logged a support ticket with Bentley, no good solution. They said they would add it to the list of enhancements. That was on ORD 10.9, we are about to go to ORD 10.12 and still no fix. We ended up having to re-label every Sta/Off, easily lost 2 days of work. What we do now, NO FAITH in Civil Labeler, as soon as we place a label we drop it so there is no association, just dumb text. If the ref is broken our labels stay intact.

  • A few observations....

First is the Anchor point (circled) and how it and other graphics become associated with the Civil Labeler Dialog association toggles (underlined) and global dgn Locks Association (highlighted). The two different locks (pictured below) may cause portions of the civil label to remain associated causing the broken graphic display (in those cases the dimension reassociate keyin may work when the terminator is placed on a new graphic.)

If Element Association and Annotation Association are turned off (as pictured below - only anno scale enabled), in some cases the Anchor (circle) can be moved anywhere and remain associated to the alignment data within the label.  This allows the element it's placed on to be deleted, but initially leaves the label, dim and anchor where it was originally placed.  When the anchor and dim terminator are moved to the new location the label seems to update...

The apparent cost:  Each set of labels initially placed on changed/deleted elements would need to be moved manually to the new locations (label and dim become independent entities and only dynamic to the target).  Each target in the civil label (Text Fav) will have an anchor point graphic.  This only appears to work when the Civil Label is using Data Point as its Method (e.g. identify reference geometry prompt).  Ensuring the reference geometry (e.g. alignment) doesn't get deleted allows the anchor point to remain dynamic. The actual offset graphic (lane lines, eop, etc), can be deleted without causing the label graphics to be affected.

Still a beast ... but maybe helps tame to bite a bit less fatally!
