Hoping this question is a fairly straightforward one but I haven't found a solution online. I'm trying to make my proposed terrain match the existing terrain at the boundary of the proposed work. What's the best way to accomplish this?

How are you generating your proposed terrain? The method used may determine the solution. Please be as descriptive as you can.
Which version of the software are you using? Specific version numbers (10.xx.xx.xxx) are most useful.

The proposed terrain has been generated using contours and a boundary. I will also be adding a few corridors at some point.
I've been using OpenRoads Designer 2022 R1 10.11.00.015.
I assume that using contours means you created several independent features, each with their own profile. If true, you can simply add the boundary to the proposed terrain. If the profile of the boundary is set to the existing terrain both will use the exact same elevation.

Yes, your assumption is correct. I figured this would involve the boundary. My boundary is currently included in the proposed terrain, but it is not set to the elevation(s) of the existing terrain. Is there a method to accomplish this?

You mention the boundary is part of he proposed terrain. Does the boundary have a profile? If not, this is where you set it to follow the existing terrain.
To set the profile of the boundary to the elevations of the existing terrain:
The boundary is currently set to a single elevation. I'm seeing an "Element not valid for tool" notice when attempting to open the profile model of the boundary.
You can use the Profile from Surface tool from your plan view without opening the profile view.
I'm not certain how the profile view would handle a closed element, so that could be the issue with that.
It could also be that at the moment the boundary doesn't have a feature. If the boundary is a simple cad line at an elevation you can't set a profile.

I am getting the "Element not valid for tool" message when attempting to set a Terrain Feature Definition AND when attempting to use profile from surface. I also attempted this after breaking the shape into a line string, which did not work.
Where did this boundary come from? Is it something you drew? Is it a 3D line in your 3D model?
Is it dependent on your proposed design features - defined as 4:1 slope for 20' for example? If that's the case, it already has an elevation based on your design.
I'll admit, I've never tried to use contours to create a proposed terrain. Usually my proposed contours are a product of my design, not the source.
It's possible you will have to add some other type of design element to project from your contoured region down to existing ground. This could probably be done with a simple linear template along the lowest design element.
The boundary is a 3D line in the 3D model. I personally did not draw in this boundary, but to my knowledge it was merely drawn in as simple linework. The boundary is not dependent on proposed design features. Currently, the entire boundary is set to one uniform elevation.
