Vertical geometry

Hi,

I am a bit new to OpenRoads designer and kindly need to know what exactly the aim is for creating a vertical geometry to be able to create cross sections afterwards. In civil 3D for instance, it is enough to create an alignment through a certain surface and then create cross sections to include the elevation data of this surface. When I am trying to do the same in ORD by drawing a horizontal geometry, I notice that, the alignement is not located in the same level as that of the surface which I wanna include in my sections. Is this then the purpose of drawing the vertical geometry in ORD, that is to adjust the levels of the alignment?

Many thanks,

Mamdouh
