Everything is geometry in ORD. It all depends on whether you want civil rules on the elements or choose to use MicroStation tools only. If you have a MicroStation line you can profile that line just like a civil line.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. Since you brought up standard MicroStation lines and feature definitions, I wanted to ask a follow-up. Could you also comment on the specific things/features/tools that Civil lines CAN be used with that MicroStation lines cannot? There is a lot of overlap it seems.

Mostly a correct statement, however there are ways around this. Civil AccuDraw and AccuDraw cannot be used at the same time. Using this keyin or a custom ribbon button will toggle between the two types of AccuDraw. civilcoord toggle;accudraw activate

I'll also point out that you can add a Feature Definition to a standard MicroStation non-civil line by using the Set Feature Definition tool.

You can also add rules to a standard complex element using the Create Civil Rule Feature tool.
