Single vertical profile for alignment that has multiple breaks and segments

Hi all,

I have an alignment laid out for a shared use path I am designing. There are several "breaks" or "discontinuations" along the path due to intersections and crossings. I would like to have one profile associated to this alignment, but the grading for the actual path is broken up in multiple segments. Is there a way to complex the profile so all segments are just one entire profile? Hopefully I explained my question well enough for someone to help. Thanks!

  • Aaron,

I am not aware of a way in which you can have any discontinuities included as a single element. A couple options I would propose. one is to simply model the profile across the intersections as that is what the profile is actually doing. A second option would be to split the alignment at the sections if you want to treat them separately. I am not sure what your specific motivation is for the single profile, I suspect for modeling in which case the latter may not be a desirable solution. A final proposal would be to use a construction element Feature Definition and create a single profile using 0' offset from each of the segments and connecting them with either a sampled surface from the intersection content or simply lines. That would allow the use of the profile for modeling purposes and display of the individual "segments" within a profile view.

    Hope that helps.
