Slope Annotation Arrows

Hello Team,

I've been trying to annotate some curb ramps, and as you can see in the picture below, we show the slope and an arrow showing where the slope is going. This is an old image, but with civil labeler I was able to produce a note that tells you positive or negative slope, still, the arrows are something we need to show. Does anyone have an idea how to produce this arrow automatically with Civil Labeler or is this something we need to to by hand? Where this image comes from is an old MicroStation file from another association.

  •  If you create a linestyle for the arrowhead leader line you may be able to produce a label style using the line.  The arrow direction would probably rely on the order in which you select the points for the slope label.

  • Hello Zane,

If you create that line style, what tool would you use to select this line style? "Place Label" tool or "Civil Labeler"? I am still a little confused on how to make the line show up Tangent to our label.

    Thank you for responding!

  • I am not sure, I currently dont have time to test this.  Either you could try and get a delimiter line for the label and set the element template to use the linestyle or you could create a cell with the arrow and use the "Place Label".

Also I am thinking if you could use a dimension style with text "In-Line" and set the text to be above or below the leader in the dimension style.

  • Hello Enrique,

I have done this this year as users in DACH also need this.

Actually the annotated line has to have an active profile.
Then you can annotate the 3d element (linear3d annotation in plan) with a cell (arrow) in the direction of neg or pos slope:

Then you have to create a text favorite for the slope (maybe also pos. and neg.) and select it in a further annotation definition to get it placed.

    I hope that helped.

    Regards

  • We do a lot of curb ramp detailing (by hand) and we use a dimension style like Zane describes with the text in-line and the leader/justification set to "underline":

I don't know how that would work with Civil Labeler, but it might.

Unless we can move those labels off the design line without the slope updating, we will continue to label by hand. That's one of the drawbacks of Civil 3D - we can label directly on the line as modeled, but as your detail shows, we aren't actually labeling ON the line. The label needs to be shifted to the side, and doing so changes the slope as shown (because the surface is often slanted or warped). It will be interesting to see if that's any better in ORD.
