Civil Labeler in Profile

I am new to ORD so hopefully I am not missing anything too obvious. I am trying to drop simple profile grade annotations to my profile. The profiles are of course stored in an alignment file. I am currently working in a sheetfile where I made the drawing and sheet models. I am referencing in the alignment file to produce plan & profile sheets. The plan and plan view labeling has gone without a hitch, easy peasy. Labeling in profile is presenting some issues.

Firstly, it seems the issue may stem further back. The alignment file has profiles that live within and there we annotated the profiles using the simple profile annotation command. That was pretty slick, except it labels everything but the straight lines of our profile. We need grades labeled there, and I know in the initial annotation group settings that the option to label these straight parts of the profile is enabled, yet it will not drop any annotation there.

Regardless I thought to go through our few sheet's profiles views and manually add the grade label myself. The 'Grade' option for the profile tools within the Civil Labeler seems straightforward. I click on the profile, it adds a label automatically, without me ever having to do any math. However, as I travel along our profile and add these labels, I am noticing that the grade command is giving me totally different grade readings on straight lines. Straight lines being straight, they shouldn't ever be varying. I will even get "0%" on slopes that are most certainly not 0%. What's the deal here? Where am I going wrong? I should also add I am trying to label in the drawing model. I have tried to label in the default model as well just to see if it works there, but there too this issue persists.

I only vaguely understand annotation groups, is the problem stemming from there? The fact that ORD refuses to annotate the simple straight slopes seems either like a glitch or some setting is jacked up somewhere. Can someone tell me where to look? Thanks in advance.

Pictured above is what I'm dealing with. The purple lines are straight yet i get two different readings. To the right there is a sloped line that ORD is telling me is "0%"

  • I'm just guessing here, but is the method you're using to select the element the issue? Maybe picking the existing ground element instead of the design vertical? Or maybe it's the label you've selected? The Text Favorite built into that label is looking at the existing ground and not the vertical alignment?

From your image it seems as if to the left of the image the ground maybe has a grade break, giving you 2 different grades.  And to the right of the picture, the existing ground looks pretty flat, thus the 0% label.

Just a couple thoughts to look into.
