InRoads create profile changing

I have set up preferences to create a right to left profile. However when displaying the profile the seetings don't hold the first time. Sometimes they do hold the second time. The problem is with the offset for elevations and stations. The profile on the bootom was the first one displayed. The profile on top is the second one displayed and has the correct label offsets.

My goal is to have two of the same profile setups with one going Lt to Rt and the other Rt to Lt.

  • Brian,

You need to re-visit your settings, there may need to be slight adjustments to the different preferences based on Lt 2 Rt and Rt 2 Lt.

As far as the preferences not holding, i have not experienced this behavoir. If you can nail down the specific workflow and instances where this occurs. A defect can be filed that will be addressed.

    This is a test

  • Thomas,

I have noticed this as well while trying to line up text labels for the Left and Right axis. It seems that when the profile is going left to right the text has an automatic spacing of the label text height away from the line without any offsets applied in the symbology. If you change it to right to left and don't close down the dialog box the offset stays to the left as desired but when you close the dialog and reopen it the offset is reversed and the text moves closer to, or within, the profile.

Is this something that can be fixed or am I missing something.

    Cheers,

    Mick.

  • I have resolved this issue by defining a symbology for Profile Annotation and setting the justification to center center. Then define the offset for the left, right and bottom access to the correct offset. The profiles will display correctly regardless of how they are placed.

  • Dan,

I did try that but it does not take into account the automatic offset of the label.

As a test can you please place your profile normally with left to right as the option, then change the setting to right to left and place it on the opposite (Bottom Right) corner of the profile so they match.  These 2 profiles should and will look identical.  Finally (and this is where the problem lies) close down the dialog and then open it again and without changing any settings place it on the bottom right corner again and you will notice that the label text does not match up.  If you calculate it they will be off by the height of the label text x whatever factor you have applied.

Let me know if you get the same results.

  • Michael.

I should include a few more details to my method.

In the Named Symbology Manager create a named symbology and set the Profile text Justification to Center Center, the Rotation to Angle Relative to Object, the Offsets to After Rotation, Horizontal to 0, Vertical to 0.

In the Create Profile dialog go to the Create Profile>Axes>Left>General leaf and set Major Ticks length to 0.1 and outside position. I use this to control the elevation label and disregard the automatic offset. It gives me more control. In the Create Profile>Axes>Left>Symbology leaf, turn off the Major Ticks. Go to the Create Profile>Axes>Left leaf and click the Mirror Left to Right button. This button only works if the profile direction is set to Left to Right in the Create Profile>General leaf.

Now profiles will display elevations on the left and right axes regardless of the direction as long as the set name is different. When testing this, the profile annotations would be incorrect if the set name was the same. So, when using the same alignment, I named one left to right and the other right to left and everything worked.

Please let me know if you get the same results.
