Pattern Line colors affect cross section generation?

I have a designer attempting to generate cross sections using yellow pattern lines. He receives the error message 

"There are no Cross Section Cell to process with regards to current settings."

He then changes only the color of the pattern lines and the cross sections generate OK.

What's strange also is he's NOT using color as part of the selection criteria.

Has anyone had this problem occur and is there anything that can prevent it?
