Help needed DTM advice

Hi peeps,

This is my first thred and im in need of some help. Im doing my dissertation at university around DTM and have now got my self involved in Bentley microsation software. Ive installed GEOPAK so i have acess to DTM tool section.

I have puchased some mapping data from getmapping.com and have recieved this as a .txt file the information is ASCII XYZ format but im having trouble putting this into Microstation / GEOPAK.

Any advice or tutorials will be greatley appreciated as im so lost and have no clue.

I think ive taken on more than i can swallow.

  • Hi Philip,

typically you would use the "Extract XYZ" tool (DTM Menu>Extract>XYZ). This allows the User to set the columns that they want imported as XYZ. If there are additional columns of data, they can be set to "none" to filter them out of the extract routine.

If your data is strictly XYZ only and the file is very large (over say 100,000 points) you may want to use the Lidar tools to import the file. This is designed to be more efficient with large datasets but the file formating of the ASCII file must fit the requirement of Lidar data. (DTM Menu>Utilities>Lidar XYZ Tools).

If you cannot get a solution (or a DTM built), contact me and I will assist further,

    Bye for now,

    Michael
