Forum wish list

Can we have a forum for posting Civil product wishes? It would make it much easier to review and discuss wishes vs. having to dig them out of the general forum.

  • This has been brought up a few times before... until there is "critical mass" for such a sub-forum, the place for such posts is in the forum that already exists. Starting the Subject with CR> (or something along those lines) is what is currently recommended to make topics/threads relating to that apparent.

  • What is the criteria for "critical mass"? Would it help to start a compain or take a vote? Unless there is some way to get everyone to format the posts it is never going to be possible to find all the topics. How can we go about forming a forum? I would really like to see a consolidated forum for conveying user experience to the design team as it seems there is a disconnect somewhere.

  • The 'criteria for "critical mass"' is subjective, but will be obvious -- no need for a campaign or vote. When there is continuous need for such a sub-forum, then it will be created. In the mean time, there are ways currently to keep track of such things.

  • It is my understanding that the Bentley Civil products (MX, Inroad and Geopak) are going to be merged into the one civil product with the idea of taking the best from each product into the next generation software.

Desigers are contantly being asked to model in more detail and and to be honest the current software does not make very detailed modelling easy or user freindly. Allot of the workflows in the civil package I used,MX, are very outdated and allot of the functionality if disjointed and allot of the never tool are not used as they seemto have been only partially developed..

This is a rare opportunity in the Bentley Civil softwares life to get a broad range of user input. Better now then later. Better communication is always promised by you guy and a method for better two way communication is this forum.

Be good for all to see what challenges users of the 3 different packged face with their current software, what they think is good about their current software and what they hope to see in the next generation product.

Phil, in these forum we can see how many people reply to a post. Can the funtion be added to see how many peopl viewed the post?

    Thanks

I believe there is, but we're pretty much "fixed" with the current format (at least until "v2.0"... which is currently being worked on).

  • BTW, I was just reminded of one more thing regarding all this -- check out the Why should I bother to say anything? blog post (particularly the part starting with "How can you get your suggestion heard?")

  • Brad,

The Bentley Civil folks have been having meetings with users for some time on the next generation of the Civil product. You can check with your AM to find out more information. Our AM has regular round table discussions with his accounts and invites Civil representatives to discuss pros and cons and wishes. You should also look into the 2009 Bentley Roads and Bridges Conference in October as well. It is a great chance to express any wishes. The Civil developers regularly watch this group for suggestions as well. If you find something you need or want, certainly float it here. It will get noticed.
