Hi all,
Got a road project where involve to do the tunnel. can't cut the hill. please tell me how to do the tunnel design using any bentley software or MXV8i? having the latest MXV8i 08.11.05.42 australiasia.
MX works on surfaces only. You cannot have overhanging surfaces, so in order to model tunnels or closed surfaces you need to define 2 cross sections, an upper one and a lower one, between these surfaces you can do volumetrics. The number of strings involved defines the model accuracy (curvature of tunnel walls), this depends o the radius of the walls, the smaller the radius the more strings you will need, like chord to arc tollerance in curve fitting.
This thing involves some seriuos Linemode because it's very unlikely to hit home in the first run.
Good luck.
If you take a look at the Rail and Transit Community Files
http://communities.bentley.com/Solutions/Rail___Transit/m/rail_and_transit-files/default.aspx
there is an example of Generative Components being used to create a tunnel for a Rail line.
I have also used the Roadway Designer in InRoads/RailTrack to create a Tunnel with a template. It will create them as components in InRoads and you can view the entire tunnel in 3D.
Either method will work, it just depends on which you would prefer.

Mick
