Power Civil error message

I occasionally encounter the error message shown in the attached screen capture when opening certain drawings in Power Civil. So far no one has been able to identify it.

I am attaching a file that exhibits this behavior. Can anyone provide insight?

This happens before loading modeler or Geometry so I am not including those files.

  • It looks like its trying to access a Road application tool (a certain ma file) that is not included in the PowerCivil platform;  which is highly unusual.  Can you tell us what you're doing immediately before the message?  Anything in the file you can think of that would be trying to access a Road tool, perhaps from a trial version of Suite you were using?
  • In some cases it has appeared after a crash but not always. The one I posted seems to have started acting up afer a crash when I was grading a sight triangle at an intersection. There were no road components (i.e no alignments, profiles, comp sections) involved in that proceedure. I have had the error message appear when opening a drawings for a new design, so I don't think it is related to a road design tool, but I really don't know. I don't have any custom macros installed that I can recall. It happens on my home and work machines, and as you have verified, even yours so it can't be machine specific. I'm really hoping to find someone who has seen it and knows what it is.

  • Hi guys,

I dont recall ever seeing this message before. I will investigate today.

Dan - did you reproduce the error?

  • Hi Neil and Dan,

I opened the DGN in PC - no error message.

Any guidance on how to recreate the error??

  • I just downloaded the file I posted here and it opens without the error. I also tried opening the original file and did not get the error either. I'm at a loss to explain. Could it possibly be related to the license manager or some other network issue? Once in a while our network has issues and I wonder if it could be caused by some loss of communication between the servers and the client. Of course that wouldn't explain why Dan got the error, if indeed he did. That could be a key factor.

Is there some error log that would help?

So far I haven't experienced any obvious negative consequence but I would rather get it resolved if it can be done without a lot of time investment in troubleshooting.

I'll post any updates if I encounter anything related.

  • I just encountered the error again. Here is what I did prior to the error:

I opened the file and loaded modeler. I loaded the Draw profiles tool but not active chain control. I have one profile in the drawing and the Draw profiles tool defaulted to that cell. At that point I changed and added some variables to my workspace configuration and saved the settings. I did not make any changes to my drawing or GPK or model. I closed Power Civil, said NO to saving changes to the GSF, and NO to locking elements. Upon re-open the error occured. I don't think the changes to config variables is a factor since I did not do that when I encountered the error before. I am starting to suspect it is related to the profile or profile tools somehow. I'll keep a closer eye on this. If this triggers any ideas let me know.

P.S.. I forgot to mention that after I made the config changes, I tried to place a new profile cell to see if the config changes worked (I set the default level for the profile cell in the GPK config variable). After placing the cell I erased it and closed PC.

Also as I just opened the drawing again I got the same road application error. I continued to open the file and loaded the draw profiles tool and got the error messages shown in the attached screen capture. I have not seen this before and it may be related to the config changes, but I'll post them just in case it helps.

I'm including the GPK as well.

  • Hi Neil,

I've asked one of the programmers if he can interpret the error message. I will post any information I receive.

Regarding the "Draw Profile" tool... It really does require Active Chain Control to be open and set to the active Chain. The Draw Profile tool may work without ACC... but it certainly not happy about it :-)

  • I think you might have found the issue Michael. I tried loading Active Chain Control (ACC) prior to loading the draw profiles tool. Now when I close and open the file the road application error does not occur. I was not aware of the need to load ACC when loading the draw profiles tool. Perhaps there needs to be a modification in the program to load ACC whenever the draw profiles tool is loaded. Meanwhile I'll be careful to load ACC first.
