Hi,
I am having a problem with a large dtm derived from LiDAR data. It is about 350MB in size, and when I try to generate contours in either InRoads XM or v8i, I get an out of memory (swap device may be full) error. I was actually able to create 1-foot contours once, but have been unable to do so since. I have tried this on a 4GB RAM Pentium 4 and a 3GB AMD Turion dual-core. Both have large pagefiles. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have two suggestions:
1. Run Surface->Utilities->Thin Random Points, to reduce the number of points in the dtm.
or
2. Chop the dtm up into segments, or limit it to just your area of interest. You can use Surface->Edit Surface->Copy Portion of Surface along with a fence to copy points from one surface to another.
