Power Civil: Temporary surface clip

When working on a project with a large base object, is there a way to clip the base object to reduce processing when working on a portion of the site? I thought that applying the clip option in Modeler preferences would do this but apparently it does not. I also tried draping a shape onto the base object and adding it as a boundary, but it doesn't clip the object. I hope we don't have to resort to creating clipped TIN's to do this as I need to be able to move the boundary around as I work. What else can we do?

  • Hi Neil,

your first thought was correct. The Preferences Clipping Boundary option is specifically designed to recalculate in only a specific portion of the Model to speed up processing times.

Last time I used this (which was awhile ago I will admit), this worked fine.

I just tried it and it appears to be working...

Give it another shot. Click the Place Working Boundary button and place the boundary. Then click OK on the preferences dialog Then begin working within that area.

The Model display should then shrink to that clipped area.

The Clipped Area will be removed from the data file when you exit and re-enter Modeler. This is a "fail safe" to ensure Users dont forget that they set the working boundary.
