Plan View Labeler

As a returning Microstation/Geopak user, I am having trouble getting the Plan View Labeler to display elevations at certain points.  I have input the Job Number, Chain, and TIN Model to use for calculating the elevations, and I do the following:

1) Click the "Data Point" button

2) Click "Z Elevation TIN"

3) Click on the point where I want the elevation to show up

4) Double click "Z Elevation TIN" so the elevation shows up in the Plan View Labeler in the upper right corner

5) Click on the location where the label is to be placed.

After doing these steps, not only will the label not "stick" (the label shows up in the plan view, but will not remain), but I cannot click on other points to get their elevations either.  I am dealing with an alignment with several curves and the labels are to be placed at an angle relative to the tangents, but if I can't use the Plan View Labeler, the only other thing I can think to do is draw angle bisectors at the locations where the lables are to be shown, then Place Text above the element.

I know there is some mysterious combination and order of buttons to click, I just don't know what they are.  Can anyone help this returing Microstation user?  I would surely appreciate it!

  • Your steps seem fine - except for step 5). Once you double-click"Z Elevation TIN" in step 4), you must cilck the "Place Label" button in order to place the label in the file. Then you can click on the location in the DGN file where you wan the label to be placed.

Other than that, it's pretty simple. If that doesn't work for you, you may want to log a call with support and provide your dataset as there may be something else going on.

    This is a test

  • Thanks a bunch for the information and reassurance!  I found out what the mystery was, once I did each step a little more slowly.  There were leaders set, which explains why the label would not stay put after a Left click...it was waiting for the leader to be set as well.

    Something so simple...JEEZ!!!!
