Problems with Roadway designer and secondary alignments

I have a roadway with a rather simple template - just 2 points on each side of the centerline. The first point is controlled horizontally by a feature, the second has a constant hor. distance and a slope, which has to be perpenducarly to the feature controlling the first point...

If I do not check "use as secondary alignment" in the point control dialog box, everything works fine - but the surface is not as I want it - the second point has to be perpendicular to the first one.

If I do check "use as secondary alignment" in the point control dialog box, it doesn't add a exterior boundary and triangulates wrong - errors occur, boundary crossing itself and so on...

Any ideas why?

See attached pdf for better explanation here : InRoads.pdf (is it not possible to attach files?)

  • Problem solved by using alignments as point controls instead of features.

Denis: The main problem is being caused by the use of dtm features as secondary alignment. Dtm features are stroked linestrings, so whenever curves are encountered, there will be sudden changes in direction at each vertex of the control. These sudden changes can cause the design transverse features to cross over each other near the vertices. Compounding this, you have the densify around horizontal curves turned on which compounds the problem. The only way to fix this is to convert the controls to true alignments with proper curves.
