I recently tried installing PowerCivil v8i (not NA) but was informed I needed to remove a previously installed product.without informing me as to what product must be removed.
Any ideas?
Chuck,
Are you trying to install Bentley PowerCivil V8i (V08.11.05.67)? If not, which version are you trying to install? What other Bentley products do you already have installed on your machine?
Thanks,
Jason Smithey
My PC is kind of the guinea pig PC - where I test new versions with our workspace. Needless to say, it can get messy.
I found a work around - using the Multi-install script.
I've been looking at our software usage and see we need to use PowerCivil more and MicroStation with InRoads less. When I saw that there was now two "flavors" of Power Civil - the traditional GEOPAK based version and the new PCNA - InRoads based, I assumed that the licensing of these would be similar to the PowerSurvey or Engineering Configuration model - allowing you to choose from either version, depending upon client and/or project needs.
Apparently, that is not the case. This does not make me happy.
We are a small firm and have had to pick and choose among the Bentley Civil products to keep costs down as much as possible. We cannot afford to put InRoads Suite on everyones desk, but sometimes, the survey technicians need more than just InRoads Survey. There are a number of tools that surveyors on occasion need access to, that are only in InRoads or inRail (and the Suite versions.) The trust licensing model does not make it easy to decide what product to run. There is no way to querry what licenses are in use and what are not. How is a user supposed to decide when to use one product or another when some products are sitting unused while others are being fully utilized. As the CADD manager, I cannot even look and tell them what to do.
Well I've hijacked my own thread to rant. Nuff said!

It was my account manager that told me that the licenses for PCNA and traditional PC are not interchangeable. Yes, I understand that I may swap one for the other, but as a consulting firm, we have clients who use InRoads and others who use GEOPAK. And since the EC's are going away, we no longer can use them to convert data between the two formats and deliver geometry or terrain data in the native files of these applications.
Yes, we can create LandXML files, but if the client wants an ALG or a GPK file, we cannot send a LandXML file and say "here you are" - we need to deliver the file as requested. And when a client has no such demands, we may wish to select between GEOPAK based or InRoads based designs.
I still prefer working with Bentley over any other vendor, but occasionally, frustrations still occur and no solution seems forthcoming.
