Inroads Cross Section Report Question

Hi everyone,

When running a cross section report with multiple surfaces, what determines the order in which the surfaces are called from inroads into the report? I'd like to be able to manage this order before calling the report so I'm not moving around any data in my text editor later (it's a consistentency issue between multiple cross section sets).

Thanks in advance.

  • I had this same issue.  It appears to report it in the order in which the surfaces were loaded.
  • In XSL, there are methods of sorting which I have used successfully but you might need to adopt a strict naming convension for surfaces to get it to work. I don't have a data set handy, but if each surface list some or all of a surface attributes, you might even be able to use something within there.

After playing around with it a little bit, it seems to me that the most recently created surface is the one that is called first. This would mean copying features over to new surfaces in reverse order of how I would like them to appear in my reports.

Also, I've just looked into sorting and cross-section surfaces can only be sorted by two fields: name and type (I was hoping for desciption to be a sortable field, but no such luck!). Since all my surfaces are the same type (design), I think my only choice is to come up with a strict naming convention like you suggested, caddcop. It doesn't seem to be the perfect fix, but it'll save me a good chuck of time in the long run.
