Importing Survey Feature Codes into Survey

I am working with a client to create a preference (.XIN) file for the transition to InRoads and InRoads Survey.  With this task, we need to setup all of their survey feature codes, some 600 or so items.

I was able to find the Import  Named Symbology from .csv function (that has since disappeared - possibly due to InRoads v81/MicroStation v8i Select Series 1incompatibility issues?), but that only addresses half of the need.  Is there another import function for Style Manager?  Is there a faster or better way to input/import Survey Feature Codes?

  • DAvid,

I'm looking for such an app too, We have all our survey codes in access-databases and it is worse to handle it all (more than 900 codes)

with the Inrodas style mananger manually.

  • Years ago, one of the guys from from the InRoads team sent me a spreadsheet that wrote an FWF based upon all of the rows and columns of symbology data in a worksheet. The format of FWF it wrote was an early version that InRoads 8.2 could read and also convert into a more current version.

Being the tinkerer that I am, I began tweaking the spreadsheet to add more capabilities. My InRoads involvement is not only with survey,  but also for design. What I ended up with allowed me to use the capabilities of InRoads Survey - including its Feature Table to Preference tool and create Feature Styles and Named Symbologies. I also wrote a series of modules to get it to suck in a WYSIWYG.INI and write out Feature Styles and Named Symbologies in a format that could be pasted into a CIVIL.INI file. My plan was to use the spreadsheet to keep all of these files - FWF and the two INI files in sync.

When Bentley went to the XIN file, I stopped work on it and now, it is a piece of unfinished business.

I'll have to do some searching, but I'll see if I can find a version that is as functional as possible. It has hundreds of hours of personal time into its development but I don't see it ever being a commercial product. So If anyone would like to try it out, let me know.

I still see a need for some type of tool to allow a bulk creation of Feature Styles. And the import of Named Symbologies using the CSV file has proven to be tricky at best. I have seen the import process create duplicate entries if not done in a very specific manner.
