GEOPAK Site Modeler Question

I am working on a site that has a detention pond with a berm on the low end. Outside of this berm is a path defined by an alignment and profile. All of these elements are part of a single object. The problem I have is that both the berm and the path are tying down to the existing ground between them. I would like the berm to slope straight toward the path without a "V" created in between them. See the attached picture. The pond berm is shown in orange, and the path is shown with the alignment running along the west edge of the path. The heavy green line is where the profile is cut.

Thank you,

Thanks for the tip.  I hadn't thought about deleting the object and "rebuilding" it.  Any idea what caused the problem I was seeing?

  • I took a look at the files and I encountered strange behavior. The TIN display would not refresh when the model was turned off and on, Object elements would not highlight using the Display tab in Element New/Create tool, the model did not update when removing objects and some other issues. There seems to be some corruption in the files. As to why the triangulation was not crossing between the pond and the berm, the maximum triangle length was set to 25 for the pond object whereas the separation between the pond and berm is over 40 feet, so the triangles did not form in that area and thus the object was projecting to existing ground between the pond and berm. This issue may not have been manifest if the model was not refreshing properly. I'm using Power Civil 08.11.05.39. It may be a version issue on my end as well. P.S. I notice that in your Modeler preferences you have maximum triangle length set to 25. That is likely the cause of some of your problems, but there is definitely something wrong with the files.

  • I had all sorts of issues with the display when I first took a look at the data.

The Preferences>Object Visualisation had been disabled...

A great way to confuse the support guy :-)

I tried turning on object display in preferences but I still can't get the pond object triangles to display. Did you notice that as well Michael? There seems to be something else going on with this project. Is there a way to generate a fresh intact copy of the GSF? Or perhaps export the DGN and associate it to the GSF? What would be some techniques to fix a corrupt file? I've run into this behavior before.

  • My bad. I hadn't turned on element visualization in preferences. If the triangle length is set to 100 in preferences and visualization for objects and elements is turned on then things start behaving. Then set max triangle length to 100 in the pond object settings and the triangulation behaves as desired.
