MX V8i: Pavement design via input files

Hello,
I am using with good results an input files to design a roadway from carriageway through earthworks up to creating an final drawings of plan and sections. Unfortunately I am still designing a pavement layers with "Pavement and Subgrade Design..." module in MX. I am really not satisfied with this tool and would like to learn an input file method of pavement design. I will be very thankful for any materials or tips in this matter.
Best regards,

The only way to do your pavements via linemode/input file would be to design strings the represent the edges of the pavement layers, and then use masking to include and exclude the required strings when taking the cross sections. Remeber that you cannot have vertical faces in the sections. Below is a simple case of a 40mm wearing course. The road is made up of strings CL01, MAST, CR01. I create 3 strings to represent bottom of wearing course (WL01, WC01, WR01) - note the masking when taking the sections. In real life, the maksing would probably need to be more explicit i.e. use CL01, and CR01 instead of simply C.

    design,proposed road
    110,mast,cl01,wl01,-0.04,7=-0.01
    110,mast,,wc01,-0.04,7=0
    110,110,mast,cr01,wr01,-0.04,7=0.01
    999
    section,xsection model,proposed road
000 Bottom of wearing course cross sections
    019,w,4=1
    019,4=-1
    173,mast,,w,7=-10,10=10
000 Carriageway cross sections, picking up left and right edge of wearing course also.
    019
    019,c,4=1
    019,m,4=1
    019,wl01,4=1
    019,wr01,4=1
    019,4=-1
    173,mast,,c,7=-10,10=10
    999
    volume,xsection model,proposed road
    000 Volume of wearing course
    056,mast,w,c,
    999

    I hope this helps.

  • Oops - missed a line / error

Change SECTION,XSECTION MODEL,PROPOSED ROAD to read as follows:-

    SECTION,PROPOSED ROAD
    SECTION,XSECTION MODEL

    D'OH!

  • Thank you for tips and I will test it in the forthcoming days. If I would have any question or problems I will be asking for help :)

Unfortunately I have now very urgent two geometrical vertical alignments for 10km of rehabilitation of dual carriageway so questions about subbase/subgrade and reports have to wait :(

    Greetings

  • I have tested it and it is great and powerful !!!!!

    Thanks

    Hi Mark,

I am using MX drainage for drainage design. I am looking to produce a plan and prfile drawings through MXV8i input files. Can you help me to create a input file for drainage plan and profile.

    regards,
