Hi,
In PowerCivil V8i I have 2 tin files, 1 is the existing land form and other is proposed.
How do I create a detailed long section along a string. Sure I can produce a DTM profile but it is very basic. I need height and offset text adding every 5 metres.
Can anybody help?
Cheers, Matt
Hi Matt,
I'm a little confused. Your forum message title says "Cross sections" and the body of your message says "long section"...
Doesn't matter too much either way as the tools to annotate both are very similar.
I'd suggest you want to use the Profile Tabular Data tool (or the Crioss Section Tabular data tool if you do indeed want to annotate XSs).
Civil>Profile>Draw Profile Tabular Data.
The tool will ask you to open the Active Chain Control - answer yes to the prompt. Use the ACC to set focus to the Chain/Profile combination you have and set focus to the Profile View.
The Tab Data tool uses a preference file to drive it... and that Preference File can be created by going to File>Preferences.
I've attached 2 examples of a Profile Tab Data preference files (extension is CCH).
One is specifically set to place elevations every 5 m along an existing surface and a design surface; the other has some more settings - just as an example.
Select the 5m interval CCH.
Select the Design Elements tab on the dialog.
Select the appropriate surface row (existing or design surface) and set the symbology settings that match the graphical elements you have drawn for the profiles.
Once these symbology settings are set correctly, the 5m interval elevation values should display in your profile view.
Once you are happy with the settings (you can edit the text height/width, color etc for the values by editing the prefernce file), click the Draw button on the dialog to write the annotation to the DGN.

If you really are annotating XSs, you will need a different preference (CCH) file. I can send one to get you started.
Hi again Matt,
I created a video and a new CCH file for you... the video should be easier to understand than the explanation I wrote.
You will need the Tech Smith codec to view the AVI. You may already have it buit, if not, go to the Tech Smith web site and download/instll the TSCC codec.
