Data acquisition - load Leica dbx issue (InR V08.11.07.227)

I'm trying to load different dbx's, but all I get is this ("no jobs found"):

Is it some secret clue to get Microstation to read my files? I have no problem getting data from theese dbx's into my other survey systems (Novapoint, Gemini, Geo, Civil3D,...).

  • Hi Morton,

you need to click the "Select" button and navigate to the folder that contains your Leica data.

Once at the folder, the application is looking for the file with the extension of XCF. There are many other files that the tools uses, but the XCF is the project file that is the start point.

Select the XCF file, and the job number will appear in nthe "Leica Jobs Found" drop down list.

You will have the option of importing Points or Measurements or Both.

Once you set the option, click Accept.

  • Michael,

we use the point attribute data in the dbx files for analysis to include the date and time the point was collected in the field.  Can you see about programming a toggle to be able to import the time and date?

    Thanks,

    Hamilton

  • Hi Hamilton,

I've discrussed this enhancement with the development team. They tell me that there are a number of data collects that store this type of data and expect your request to be replicated amongst other users.

I've created a ticket for the inclusion of this enhancement to be dealt with as time permits.

    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Michael,

This is not an enhancement, this is simply an import of the time and date stamp record in the database.  This is no different than importing an angle or a distance.

Who is the 'development team'? and what are the number of data collects that store this type of data?

I have been working with Bentley and Leica on this simple functionality for several years and not happy with paying religiously for Select Support and receiving lip service.

Not your fault, but Bentley has fallen down on this one,

  • Morton and Hamilton:

You may rest assured that these questions are being carried forward for consideration in future releases.  Michael is the Engineer assigned to the Data Acquisition toolset and I am the Product Manager, so you have access to the proper people.

We are studying the sample datasets and your questions and will place any necessary changes into the pipeline.

As far as the terminology: "enhancement" means only that is is a change in behavior from what is currently programmed.  The terminology is less important than the nature of the report.  What it all boils down to is which changes are most necessary to the greatest number of people.

  • I can't really see the connection between my problem and Hamiltons issue. I'm not able to get any data from the dbx-files at all, and I don't see what that has to do with future releases either. I think I must be doing something wrong or my dbx data must be wrong.

In the "Load Leica" dialog, the tips text for the Select "button" states "Select Leica DBX path", and I would assume I should select a folder, and then I would get all the xcf-files in that folder listed in the "Leica Jobs Found" dropdownlist. But select operation finaly direct me to one spesific xcf file only (which is actually one spesific job). If it's actually possible to get some data at all from a Leica DBX through this tool, I would like to se a DBX dataset that is working.

Anyway I'm attaching another DBX-dataset form a TPS (the last was from a GNSS).

  • Hi Morton,

I grabbed the most recent dataset you posted and processed it.

I've attached an AVI that shows the steps and outcome. Please review the video and follow the steps.

It didn't seem to be any problem at all. Please let me know if you do not get the same result.

  • Thanks, nice to see that it actually works, but I don't get the same result.  When I open the Load Leica dialog the bottom line states "No jobs found", if I click Accept the bottom line states "Error converting file"....

If there is no DBX-files in the default folder (MS_DEF?) I get this messages:

     ?

  • This is probebly not a MicroStation issue! I'm running windows7 64-system, and I'm not all familiar with everything. But anyway some other issue made me try running Microstation "as administrator" (altough I'm already administrator on this computer) and suddenly I could load my TPS data (not the GNSS - but I think that might be yet another issue).

So apperently the data aquisition tool needs write access to folders on the computer that might be subject to some user priveligies issues(?).
